#070. The last post of the year!
December 31st 2017 20:20, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So here we are, the last post of the year.

Many things have happened this year and I think the most important for me (in terms of work) is the amount of support I have had from people sending messages, and have been wishing me well, complimenting and criticising Healing Process: Tokyo.

Those who joined the discord (click here if you haven't) have been very supportive and helped keep the daily grind of gamedev bearable. Thanks guys! I'll be uploading a new year's video in celebration soon with a special announcement regarding my private life, and a bit about the progress of HP:T. I hope you enjoy it.

As for the analysis video I am editing it now.

Thanks for your support and see you again in 2018!

Sam

#069. As a side note...
December 30th 2017 6:29, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the last few years as well as making HP:T I have been composing and refining my band's first CD. This is something which I will finally finish in the next few months!

This actually holds a great relevance to Healing Process as I will use some tracks / share melodies between my band's music and the game too. As I mentioned in my last video, I kind of see all of my creative projects as one flowing thing and don't have any problem sharing elements between the two. The HP:T soundtrack is so long anyway it's not like the player is being cheated out of content by me spreading it across my different work. If you're interested in my band here's the only video we have up so far:

We will film a kind of 'from the basement' (check YouTube) video of the first CD in the next few months, which will see us in the studio playing all of the tracks in one day. This was a really good way to get into Radiohead's album 'The King of Limbs', and playing our music for the listener to see as well as hear will be a good way to get the debut CD out there. It's been a lot of hard work but I've nearly finished it... I can't believe it's been almost 2 years!!!

#068. Too much creative energy!
December 29th 2017 8:16, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Working freelance I have the time to do creative things for many hours a day, but that often in itself can pose a problem, that problem is that I have TOO MUCH creative input vs. creative output, I often don't have time to edit everything down into something tangible or polished to show. Do you know what I mean? It's like trying to fit a resevoir through a funnel: impossible.

Thanks to HP:T I have gotten better recently though.

#067. Breath of Fishing!
December 28th 2017 21:21, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, I shot a video today for new year, one of two on the way currently!

Recently I have been looking at mini-games from other games. A huge favourite is the fishing mini-game from Breath of Fire III. Here's a video from YouTube user 'OSIRIS' explaining about the mini game:

What do you guys think of this? There are some key fishing spots even in central Tokyo and I'd love to add in some kind of fishing sim. It'd be a great way to kill time and give the player some records to beat.

Speaking of Breath of Fire III, the soundtrack by Aoki Yoshino and Kaida Akari is also so inspiring! Here's the main theme from BOF III to get you interested.

You just have to love those PSX / SNES(like) sounds!!! It's a shame how downhill the genre went after BOF IV, but 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all absolute classics you have to experience for yourself.

I'm going to get back to the HP:T gamedev grind.

See you tomorrow!

#066. Banner Updated!
December 27th 2017 17:16, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I fixed up the banner which is from an area in the game, it looks much better than before, do you remember?
:p I hope not!

See you tomorrow!

#065. Boxing Day!
December 26th 2017 19:14, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Merry Boxing Day!

Honestly, what even is boxing day?

I shot a video and I'm editing it down now. I'm going to make a video with my plans for Healing Process: Tokyo in 2018 shortly too so if you have any questions let me know! I don't suspect many as there is no prize this time but I think I will have a new year competition sooner or later too!

Have a great day with your loved ones, or alone! They're both valid.

#064. Merry Christmas!
December 25th 2017 14:58, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Merry Christmas to everyone following along with my gamedev. I will make a new year's video in celebration of a good year and also with a little announcement with some amazing news at my end.

I'm also going to be uploading a video with the breakdown of how I made the tree in the lake I uploaded a few days ago.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! I'll still be uploading everyday.

Take care everyone, let's listen to a Christmas Song!

'Hurry Christmas' by L'arc en Ciel! A band I have had the pleasure to see live twice!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

#063. Christmas Eve with John Bauer!
December 24th 2017 21:26, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, I know I have mentioned him already but the artist John Bauer is an endless source of inspiration for me in my work! 'Alfacroma' on YouTube made this song called 'Trolls' as a tribute to him and I really liked it so I thought I'd share it tonight!

It's Christmas tomorrow!

#062. Expanding!
December 23rd 2017 20:22, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sketching out the progression of a previous piece!

I've had some great feedback for this one and for the speedpainting video of Tokyo (last post) and a lot of new followers on Facebook and some new subscribers on YouTube. Thanks everyone!

You know no matter what happens I'll be slaving away on this game like I have for the last 3 years but... with people following along and responding positively it's much easier.

I'm working on my next video entry now.

I'm looking forward to 2018!

#061. Suidobashi Speedpaint Video Uploaded!
December 22nd 2017 23:02, (Tokyo)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone, guess what!

New video up, finally. I hope you enjoy this speedpaint and ramble video! It's 32 hours of footage sped up into 20 minutes, so it's hard to see what's going on at times. If you dont care about the commentary and want to see the art being drawn it might be better to use the setting within YouTube to slow it down to 0.25 or 0.5.

Anyway, thanks for your support as always!

Sam
